Comment: The fantastic green upholstery on this set of 6 antique French Hunting style dining chairs reminds us of a medieval tapestry, with its design showing courtiers on the royal hunt! The 6 antique Renaissance dining chairs in the Hunting style were crafted in France around the year 1880, and the carvings in the solid oak wood are splendid. First you will probably notice the carvings on the armless dining chairs of the luscious bunches of grapes and foliage tumbling down the chair backs. More leaves form the crest rail of the chairs while the vines on the back splat are framed by two handsome barley twist posts topped with finials or spindles. More twist detail on the legs and stretchers enhance the visual appeal. The green upholstery on the seat shows a forest scene with courtiers on horseback and foot. This scene echoes the source of the French Hunting style, originally made popular by King Francis I, who decorate his royal hunting lodges with furniture evoking the rustic world of the hunt. This set of six antique French Hunting chairs will look incredibly authentic in your Hunting style or Rustic style dining room or rustic country kitchen.
