Bookshelf: Beauty at Home

Posted by Aimee Talbot on 9th Jan 2014

Our business is all about beauty at home, helping our clients find the antique furniture and home decor accents to create a lovely space that suits their tastes and lifestyles. These recently published books all look at ways to create beauty at home. They are gorgeously illustrated to provide plenty of inspiration!

Beauty at Home

Beauty at HomeStyle icon Aerin Lauder shares her grandmother Estée Lauder’s elegant and classic taste. In Beauty at Home, Aerin describes how Estée loved blue and white in her color scheme. She chose the fresh blue and white combination for all kinds of design details, from her jars of beauty products right down to her linens. Aerin still has Estee’s Louis XVI style dressing table and (like many of our customers!) she’s a fan of vintage French chandeliers too. Although not exactly an interior design book, Beauty at Home offers plenty of eye candy ideas for your decor. Aerin shares the influences that informed her personal style and takes a tour around her New York apartment and Estée’s former Hamptons home.

La Vie Est Belle

La Vie est BelleThis new book talks about beauty at home with a French accent! The full title is La Vie Est Belle: The Elegant Art of Living in the French Style. Of course, as so many of the pieces of antique furniture and vintage decor accents at are imported directly from France, we’re keen to find out what this book has to say. The author Henrietta Heald takes a look inside French homes in various regions, from fancy châteaux to rustic farmhouses. For each region she visits, she also describes the local French culture and lifestyle, the foods and the wines. She includes French recipes too!

Fifth Avenue Style: A Designer’s New York Apartment

Fifth Avenue StyleThe lavish photos in this book offer a fine example of beauty at home! International interior designer Howard Slatkin believes, like us, that home should be a personal refuge. In this tour of his opulent Fifth Avenue apartment, Slatkin shares his decor ideas. Function, comfort, and attention to detail are the emphasis. As the author says “You only have to please yourself, so forget about rules and dictates and what is in vogue today.” We know that our clients have their own strong sense of style and they are highly creative in adorning their homes in unique ways to suit their personal taste. (As you can see in our client spotlights.) So we guess you might enjoy the exquisite photos in this book, and the author’s practical ideas on home design. He also shares his approach to successful but relaxed entertaining.
