Bookcase Antique French Hunting Renaissance 1880 Oak Fox Dog Chicken Wire

Picture this majestic antique French Hunting style bookcase housing your collection of books, at the same time as creating a beautiful decorative focal point in your library, home office, hallway or living room. Exquisitely carved with gorgeous details, the antique Renaissance Hunting style bookcase is a direct import from France and it dates to around 1880. The bookcase is carved in oak wood which boasts a lovely aged patina, and the two lower doors are carved with a fox on one and a hunting dog on the other. This is typical of the traditional Hunting style, which is a legacy of King Francis I of France, who liked to decorate his royal hunting lodges with furniture evoking the rural world of the hunt. Notice the exceptional lifelike detail carved into the two animals. The craftsman who carved that dog must have seen many dogs sniffing to pick up the scent, while even the fur on the dog and the fox looks like it ripples with the animals movement! Other carvings include leafy foliage and a shield. The original glass on the upper two doors has been replaced with chicken wire to give that rustic Hunting style look. This superb 1880 antique French Renaissance Hunting style bookcase offers ample storage in the upper and lower cabinets as well as two drawers. Condition: Normal wear due to age and use. Dark ring and spots on top of bottom cabinet. Shelves are not original, and shelf has been raised in height. Repair to top right hinge on lower doors.
