A beautiful Antique Cabinet Wardrobe Armoire in fir and elm dating to 1880 from the Hebei Province and featuring two carved dragons along the bottom apron and striking full moon hardware. Hand-carved dragons on an Antique Chinese Cabinet symbolized power, authority, and wealth for the owner. This Antique Chinese Cabinet has the four side square design known as si ping. Long ago, woodworkers would place a thick layer of linen and clay under the lacquer finish in order to protect the wood, known as pima hui. As the piece ages, the clay slides and creates a leather-like look and texture to the finish, which this Antique Chinese Cabinet reveals. This wonderful Antique Chinese Cabinet is both attractive and functional, and could be used to store clothes, linens, or other personal items. The central stile can be removed in order to fully use the large storage space at the bottom of the cabinet. This Antique Chinese Armoire would fit equally well in a bedroom or in a living room to hold books, stereo equipment, or personal momentos. The unique hand-carved design of dragons makes this Antique Chinese Cabinet a must-have for your collection!
