Comment: If you are looking for a set of brown or striped upholstered dining chairs that will make a dramatic design impression, then this amazing set of 6 vintage French sheepbone dining chairs is sure to capture your attention. The 6 armless chairs date to 1930 and they are perfect for anyone who likes chairs with impact in their dining room, as you can see from the striking striped upholstery and stylish Sheepbone style shaping on the legs and stretchers. The chair frame is crafted in oak wood which looks great against the smart upholstery on the seat cushion and back. The brown / beige / tan striped fabric features a nicely judged combination of wide and narrow stripes, so they have quite a modern or Mid-Century Modern look that will make a stylish statement in your dining room. Nailhead trim enhances the upscale appeal of the six oak dining chairs, which are a direct import from France. The armless vintage French sheepbone chairs could also be used as attractive side chairs in your eclectic living room, hallway, home office or bedrooms.
Style: Sheepbone <div>LOUIS XIV AND THE BOULLE STYLE</div><div>The Sun King, Louis XIV (1643 1715), ascended the throne shortly before he turned five years of age, although he did not personally rule until the age of 23. Louis XIV enjoyed the longest reign of any European monarch, dying just before his 77th birthday. Louis XIV was an absolute monarchist and history attributes him with the phrase L'tat, c'est moi (I am the State). With an all-powerful monarch around whom the court and all of France rotated, the grandiose Baroque style of furniture and decorative arts, which originated in Italy, was brought to France. To please the King, furniture makers produced massive, elaborate, dramatic and more and more extravagant pieces, just for the sake of extravagance.</div><div>The epitome of this style under Louis XIV was reached by Andr-Charles Boulle (1642 1732), the French furniture maker who is recognized as the preeminant artist in the field of marquetry (the art of using veneer to create patterns). Boulle style became known as the use of very expensive tortoishell veneer, which was then further decorated with inlaid pieces of hand-painted brass. The result is extraordinary and spectacular and all of the courtiers of Louis XIV rushed to acquire their own Boulle-style pieces for their chateaux. Additionally, curvy chair legs, known as mutton-bone turnery or Sheepbone style, were also popular at this time. </div>
