Sports Decor - Olympic Inspiration at Home!
With the Rio 2016 Olympic Games catching everyone's attention, I thought it would be fun to look at some arty and nostalgic sports decor that will fit gracefully into your home, even if you're not the sporty type! But it you DO play tennis or golf or love watching the gymnasts do their thing, you'll definitely like these!
Anyone for tennis? I love this Edwardian style couple ready to serve up in a game of mixed doubles. How on earth did women play tennis in skirts like that? Let alone the wasp waist corset and the perky little hat! This is one of the amazing vintage art prints we've started to stock from a collection of vintage art.
The vintage prints are restored and digitally reprinted and they are available framed and printed on fine art paper (Giclee) and canvas. We have so many different images with so many subjects, the easiest way to find one is to do a search by topic on our antiques and home decor website.
Historically, when you look back over more than a century to 1896, the USA along with Great Britain have won many more medals for sailing than any other country competing in the Olympic Games, This charming vintage Delft clock dating to around 1950 celebrates sailing with a hand-painted vista of a sailing regatta. The vintage clock is perfect for a boating enthusiast or to decorate a coastal home.
The USA has already won a gold medal for road cycling at the 2016 Olympics, but I don't think the road cycling at the games is quite the same as the rather racy cycling in this vintage art print. I'm pretty sure the competitors don't get to ride along with their arm on the shoulder of a motorcyclist!
Still, this fantastic Art Deco Favor cycling print is so streamlined and chic, I had to show it to you.
Horseback polo is no longer part of the Olympics, but it was an Olympic sport from 1900 to 1936. I wonder why they dropped it when there are still so many other equestrian events? Anyway, here's an interesting fact for you: The United States did actually compete in those games and won several medals for polo! The new polo player bookends in the photo are hand-cast and hand-painted as a custom order. The resin bookends are beautifully detailed.
Our American gymnasts have done brilliantly at the Olympics, and the sculpture of these two male gymnasts shows the grace, strength and poise typical of the best gymnasts.
The new sculpture is cast in iron and it stands on a marble base. It's an elegant 34 inches high, so it makes a great focal point for a space that can take a narrow but nearly 3 feet tall signature piece.
The style is reminiscent of classic sculptures and it has a wonderful sense of aspiration. It is weighty in its substance but somehow also light and heart-lifting.
I could look at this piece all day!
We have a lot of home decor for golfers in our online store, probably because it's such a popular sport.
Our pieces include golf statues and bookends and other golf decor including wall sconces, vases, and vintage art prints.
I saw that a British golfer just scored the first ever hole-in-one at the Olympic Games - how cool is that? He must be very pleased with himself.
This vintage style chap is certainly swinging for a hole-in-one! The hand-cast and hand-painted bookends are a wonderful gift for any golfer.
And for the lady golfers, this young woman also looks like she's aiming for a medal. She's very determined.
The Monte Carlo golf vintage art print has such a wonderful feel to it, with her billowing white skirt, the bright blue sea and the puffy clouds in the sky. It's just very exhilarating and it takes us back to a more innocent era. Also, an era when she probably had a servant to launder her white clothes and keep them so immaculately white after a day on the golf course 🙂 But let's not let our nostalgia get bogged down with reality. This vintage art is pure wonderful escapism!
But do you think this guy can escape....?
Held in a headlock, I wonder if this guy can get away from his wrestling opponent? This is one of several vintage art prints of wrestlers that we stock - it's marvelous, isn't it?
As this post is published, we are going in to a weekend of wrestling competitions at the Rio Games. The USA has many wrestlers competing, so good luck to them and GO USA!
At the very least, I hope they give their opponents some attitude like this wrestler does.
What's your favorite sport at the games? Do you have an sport themed decor in your home? We'd love to hear about it... just tell us in the comment box.
