Tables & Chairs FAQ

01 Do tables and chairs need to match?

The table and chairs in the dining room do not have to match. Even if nothing matches, a coordinated style of decor can produce a room with nice flow and cohesiveness. Tables, chairs, wood, and other furniture, such as buffets, can all be mixed and matched. You may even mix and match your colors!

02 How much space should be between dining chairs?

Allow a minimum of 24 inches between chairs, measured from the seat's center point. If each seat is 18 inches wide, for example, a minimum of 6 inches between chairs will offer enough elbow room.

03 Do chairs have to match my table?

First and foremost, remember that your seats do not need to match your table. They don't even have to match, as long as they all fit beneath your dining table comfortably.

04 Should dining chairs be the same height?

The distance between the chair seat and the underside of the tabletop should be between 10 and 13 inches.

05 Do dining chairs have to fit under the table?

With or without arms, chairs should be able to slip easily under the table. The ideal distance between the chair arm and the table apron is 7 inches, but this isn't a hard and fast rule. Your chair's back height should be comparable to that of your table.
