Best of May 2013: Home Decor Inspirations and More

Looking back over our May blog posts I can see this was a very busy month! We've been out and about making deliveries to customers, returning with lots of photos to share how our clients use and display antique furniture in their home decor. Let’s revisit some of our favorite May posts, starting with how we took style inspiration from Hollywood.

I was inspired by the new movie of The Great Gatsby to have fun with this post about Great Gatsby style decor. I spend a lot of time talking with customers about how certain pieces might work in their home decor. So it wasn't too much of a leap to make some guesses at the antique furniture and accent pieces that Jay Gatsby and Tom and Daisy Buchanan might choose to reflect their own unique personalities and tastes!

On our 2900 Mile Road Trip to Boston Greg and I mixed business with pleasure! We made some deliveries to customers and visited a furniture market to select high-quality antique reproduction furniture for the gallery. We also visited my grandma, spending hours chatting and picking crabs – a real family tradition! Then Greg and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary, sightseeing on the Freedom Trail and visiting The House of Seven Gables.

We visited our clients Sandy and Brent in Northport, AL, to deliver a fabulous Louis XV bedroom suite, and shared lots of pictures of the beautiful French antique furniture that they enjoy in their home. Sandy and Brent have been EuroLux Antiques customers for several years, and it's wonderful to see how they incorporate antiques into their home decor with such timeless grace.

In the Client Spotlight post Vintage French Sideboard at Home in Maryland we showed how Irene made a terrific feature of this vintage French Mid-Century Modern sideboard in her elegant dark blue dining room.

As the sunny days arrived, my mind turned to fresh summer produce to enjoy during leisurely dinners in the long, light evenings. I shared a simple but delicious recipe for Strawberries in Balsamic Vinegar and also blogged about how to Serve Up Summer Herbs in Style…The Old-Fashioned Way.

We also took a peek at Historic Tudor Place in Washington, DC. It's a National Historic Landmark built in 1816, and it was home to six generations of Martha Washington’s descendents. It's a gorgeous house and it's packed with a huge collection of antique furniture, ceramics, and silver.

For anyone who enjoys a sense of history in their own home (even if it's probably a bit smaller than Tudor Place!) check out my post on Heavily Carved Antique Furniture. I showcased some exceptionally beautiful pieces that really lend a unique, hand-crafted touch to your home decor. You can bet that you're not going to see these one-of-a-kind buffets in anyone else's home! You certainly won't see the magnificent eagle-adorned French Gothic Style chandelier that I mentioned in the same post, for people who are looking for something a little special in their lighting.
